Webster-Lake
(formerly Boydston Lake) is a freshwater lake located in Kosciusko county in central Indiana. The lake borders the town of North Webster to the west of the lake. The Webster dam was created at the southwestern point of the lake and a gristmill was built by Ephriam Muirhead in 1837. This damming created one large lake from as many as seven smaller lakes. Webster Lake is most popular for boating and fishing, especially known for its musky species of fish. The Dixie, Indiana's oldest stern wheel paddle boat, is also found at Webster Lake. The Dixie has cruised the lake since 1929, providing tours to generations of visitors. Tours are available for regular summer cruises from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The boat is also chartered for events such as weddings, retirement home outings, and company and community gatherings. Many of the cruises feature period music and a narration with some of the history of the area, the lake and the Dixie. The town of North Webster also offers a Mermaid Festival, which takes place in June each year. Highlights of the festival include a Cutie King & Queen Pageant, the Cutie parade, the Mermaid Parade, a carnival and fireworks.

Northwest Indiana has a four-season climate typical of most of the Midwest, with a few exceptions due to its proximity to Lake Michigan. Cold air passing over the warmer lake water induces precipitation in the lee of Lake Michigan in autumn and winter. As a result of this phenomena, heavy winter precipitation, especially snowfall, can extend eastward from Gary inland to as far as Elkhart. Lake-related snowfall and cloudiness can extend to central Indiana in winter, driven by strong northwesterly winds. In the spring, daily maximum temperatures decrease northward in northern Indiana because of the cooling effect of the Lake. Average daily minimum temperatures in autumn are higher in northwestern Indiana near the warmer lake surface than farther south.
